Kitchen Plumbing by Prime Flow

Kitchen plumbing has to protect cabinetry and appliances as well as deliver reliable water and drainage. Prime Flow handles sink, mixer, appliance and waste-line work.

What we help with

Sink and mixer installations
Dishwasher and washing-machine connections
Under-sink leaks
Kitchen waste and drainage

Before the plumber arrives

  • Stop active under-sink leaks before they damage cabinetry.
  • Confirm appliance connection requirements before installation.
  • Do not ignore a slow kitchen drain; grease buildup can worsen quickly.

Worth Knowing

Why kitchen waste blocks more often than anywhere else

Kitchen waste lines carry fat, oil and food residue that cools and hardens inside the pipe. Over time the bore narrows until something ordinary finally blocks it, which is why a kitchen sink usually drains slowly for weeks before it stops. The slow phase is the cheap moment to deal with it.

Appliance connections are the other common source of trouble. Dishwashers and washing machines are frequently connected into an existing waste with a spur that was not sized for it, and the result shows up as a smell, a slow drain, or water backing into the machine.

Common kitchen faults

  • Slow-draining sink from fat build-up
  • Leaking mixer cartridges and swivel spouts
  • Waste trap and connection leaks under the unit
  • Dishwasher and washing machine connection faults
  • Smells from a dry or badly fitted trap

Worth doing, and worth not doing

  • Do let hot water run after washing greasy pans
  • Do keep a trap on any appliance spur
  • Do not pour cooking fat down the sink, even with hot water
  • Do not rely on chemical cleaners for a recurring block

Fat poured down a sink with hot water does not disappear — it travels a short distance, cools and sets. Wiping greasy pans out before washing them prevents more kitchen blockages than any product sold to clear them.

Common questions

My kitchen sink drains slowly but is not blocked.

That is fat narrowing the pipe, and it is the right time to deal with it. Clearing at this stage is straightforward; waiting until it stops completely usually is not.

Can you connect a dishwasher or washing machine?

Yes, including the waste spur and trap. Machines connected into an existing waste without a proper trap are a frequent cause of smells and slow drainage.

There is a damp smell under my sink but no visible water.

Usually a slow leak at a trap or compression joint, or a trap that has dried out. Both are small repairs and both get worse if the cupboard base stays wet.
